Last Minute Photo Workshop !!!

Hello everyone,

I will be at the Wentworth Inn in Jackson tomorrow night at 5pm to 6:30 etc to photograph the Ice Sculptures. I will be bringing an assortment of Colored Gels to use on their flood lights. Temp. should be about 30 degrees I did this before and they bought the photos. Come one come all. Bring your Tripod. Will be having Coffee at "The Met" after.

Here's a small tip I discovered while shooting photos walking around a park few days ago:

When shooting from the hip for candid shots (I did with SLR, but other camera should work too), place your left index finger flat against the lens and parallel to the camera's kine of sight. Point at the subject you are interested in with your finger and press the shutter. You will be suppressed how accurate your aim is........

Reminder, Check your photo equipment that is not used much, film cameras, flash units etc. and remove the batteries. Batteries enclosed (no air) build up gases, leak and damage your equipment.

Deadline for the next photo competition is Sunday, December 4. The subject is "Reflection".
Also the deadline to sign up and pay for the Holiday Party at Stonehurst is our next meeting, Dec 7.

I received info recently regarding the next International Competition at the Lynn Camera Club. We have been invited to participate as a club or as individuals. To participate as a club we need a minimum of seven club members to submit entries - up to four entries each. This would be similar to our monthly competitions except on a much grander scale. It's a great experience and we will plan to go to Lynn to watch the judging. I NEED TO RECRUIT ONE MEMBER TO COORDINATE OUR PARTICIPATION. YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE EVER PARTICIPATED IN THE COMPETITION. An associate/friend was looking for an appraisal(not formal) on some older photography equipment, a friend Michael Bannon recommended you as someone that may be helpful/knowledgeable on approximate worth.

NEXT SPECIAL ASSSIGNMENT - "SCARY" AND NEW DECEMBER COMPETITION MEETING DATE

Thanks to Russ Seybold of Conway Scenic Railroad for judging 30+ club photos of the iconic station. Our next "assignment" in the spirit of the season is "Scary". Could be Halloween related or something else that you think is scary or portrayed in a scary way. I'm trying to recruit someone from Cranmore Resort's Ghoulog to do the judging. Images are due by November 13, the same date as our November competition photos are due. (Nov competition is "Open")

Our December meeting dates have changed a bit. They are now Dec 7 and 14. Dec 7 will be the competition date for the month ( "Reflection") and Dec 14 will be our holiday party date at Stonehurst in North Conway. More details on that as we get closer.

Remember that we will be in a classroom for our November 2 meeting on Studio Lighting by Skip Hoyt of the Greater Lynn Photographic Society - a review of lighting basics. Watch for directional signs when you enter the school that night.

Early fall foliage in Crawford Notch

Yesterday I traveled through Crawford Notch to visit a job site. The foliage is just starting and should be at peak next weekend. Route 302 suffered a lot of damage from Tropical Storm Irene. There is single lane traffic near the Dry River Campground, and several areas going up the Notch near Silver and Flume Cascades. Most pullout parking areas have been taken up by construction equipment and material storage so there is limited parking. There were some leaf peepers around. If you are going to photograph, I'd recommend going very early in the morning since there will be many people, construction equipment and few areas to pull-off areas to park. The NHDOT is working very hard to get things back to normal so conditions may change considerably in a week. The attached is a grab shot near Saco Lake and Elephants Head.

Do you still wonder what all of those controls on your camera are about ??? Well, don't worry you aren't the only one ! Dave Holt, Vice President of the North Country Camera Club, will conduct a Q & A meeting at "The Met" meeting room in North Conway for ANYONE who feels that their camera is still a bit of a mystery. (Something we have all felt from time to time !) The emphasis will be on answering questions about camera mechanics and photo processing, White balance , Firmware update etc, etc. The meeting is scheduled for THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 6:00 PM AT THE MET COFFEE HOUSE IN NORTH CONWAY. This FREE event is open to club members and non members. Come by have coffee and ask the questions or Help another member. "See you at "The Met" !!!!! IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO COME, BRING YOUR MANUAL AS WELL AS YOUR CAMERA .

A few Pics I took the other day on a hike to Mt Sabattus, Lovell Me. Nice short hike. Lot's of mushrooms to shoot. Just had my point and shoot. Would like to get back there sometime this week with tripod and other gear, preferably after a little more rain. Happy shooting !

Great First Meeting !

We had 32 attendees at our first meeting of the season, great turnout. It was nice to see some new faces!
Dick Pollock our new President made introductions and had a short presentation about the club and what to look forward to coming up. He then introduced Joe and Judy Burgess who gave an outstanding program on how to use simple tools and guidelines to improve your photos. The biggest takeaways I got from it were:
Get it right in the camera first and Learn to use the crop tool

A very information evening was held at "The Met Coffee House" Wed Eve as Club Vice President Dave Holt conducted a Q & A session on "Learn To Love Your Camera" for members and non-members. We had a good turnout and picked up a couple of new members. Dave hopes to hold several more of these sessions during the season, so watch out for the next one. Thanks Dave - Great Job as always !
